KUCHING: The organisation of the Ramadan Bazaar continues to serve as an important platform in helping local traders generate income throughout the month of Ramadan, says Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
The Deputy Minister for Utilities (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), who is also Satok state assemblyman, said the opportunities provided are able to benefit small-scale local traders.
“Through the organisation of the bazaar throughout Ramadan, we aim to stimulate the economy of small traders through food and beverage stalls,” he added.
“Therefore, we see this platform as a medium that provides traders with the opportunity to earn a living for their families.”
He said this when met by reporters while attending the opening of the Satok Ramadan Bazaar here today.
In this regard, he also praised the initiative of the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) in maintaining the annual tradition of organising the bazaar in the area.
“This bazaar has become our tradition in Satok to ensure the area remains lively and vibrant with such events,” he added.
“In fact, we can see the presence of people from various walks of life, including visitors from abroad. This atmosphere is important to be preserved.”
At the same time, he advised traders to ensure cleanliness is always maintained while conducting business at the Ramadan Bazaar.
“Besides ensuring the cleanliness of the area, traders are also advised to set reasonable food prices while maintaining the quality of the food sold,” he said.
Meanwhile, DBKU Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, revealed that the Ministry of Health (KKM) will conduct periodic inspections at Ramadan bazaars operating in Kuching.
“They will take food samples to identify any unhygienic food that may cause food poisoning among customers,” he said.
The event also witnessed Ibrahim presenting Ramadan contributions to 20 asnaf recipients under the N8 Satok constituency, which were collected from donations by the DBKU surau management.
After the programme, he also took the opportunity to visit 108 sales lots while distributing aprons and caps sponsored by Central Coldstorage Kuching (CCK) to the traders.
