MIRI: A 24-day Ramadan bazaar jointly organised by the Jatti Miriek Miri Association (PJMM) and the Miri Gymkhana Club (GCM) will be held from Feb 18 to Mar 15 at the Miri Gymkhana Club.

The bazaar offers business opportunities for local traders and a centralised venue for the public during the fasting month.

It is being organised in collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

The event was officially announced at a press conference here today by PJMM Vice-President, Datuk Muhamad Safri Datuk Abdillah, who said the initiative is aimed at supporting small traders while ensuring a more organised, clean and family-friendly Ramadan market.

The bazaar will operate daily from 2.00 pm to 7.00 pm, featuring a wide selection of food and beverages for breaking fast, as well as festive items.

A total of 43 stalls has been approved by the Miri City Council (MCC) for this year’s bazaar to provide cooked food, drinks and festive goods throughout the 24-day period.

Applications to operate stalls opened today and can be obtained in writing from the Miri Gymkhana Club at Lot 732, Block 10, MCLD, Jalan Dato’ Abang Indeh.

Applications may also be submitted online via a Google Form to be published on the official Facebook pages of PJMM and the Miri Gymkhana Club.

All applications must be submitted by 5.00 pm on Feb 13, while the stall draw will be held on Feb 15 at 7.00 pm.

Applicants are required to submit a valid food-handling course certificate and proof of typhoid vaccination, at their own cost. Stall rental fees are set at RM400 for 20×10 stalls, RM350 for 10×10 stalls and RM300 for 6×8 stalls.

A refundable deposit of RM150 will also be imposed, subject to compliance with all conditions at the end of the bazaar.

Payments may be made in cash or via online transfer to the Miri Gymkhana Club’s Public Bank account.

In line with the government’s affordability agenda, traders are encouraged to offer at least one Menu Rahmah item priced at RM5 or below. Participating traders will receive a RM100 incentive from KPDN, while organisers will provide an additional RM100 rental rebate.

Safri said the key objectives of the bazaar include generating income opportunities for small-scale traders, promoting social cohesion among Miri’s multi-racial community, and ensuring a safe and clean trading environment.

Also present at the press conference were KPDN Miri branch head, Englebert Inggath Desmond Japar, and a representative from the Miri Gymkhana Club.
