KUCHING: A blood and organ donation campaign will be held at AEON Mall Kuching Central here on Feb 28.

The initiative is jointly organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Branch and Bahá’ís of Kuching City South to address anticipated shortages during the fasting season.

The Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Branch said the campaign aims to prevent critical blood shortages at the Blood Bank of Sarawak General Hospital as donations typically decline during Ramadan.

“We often see a drop in blood donations during the fasting month, while hospital demand remains constant or increases,” it said in a statement on Monday (Feb 23).

The branch stressed that maintaining adequate blood reserves is crucial to support emergency cases, surgeries and patients requiring regular transfusions throughout the fasting period.

The four-hour campaign will take place in front of Brand Outlet at South Court, AEON Mall Kuching Central, from 10am until 2pm.

Organisers said members of the public who meet eligibility criteria are encouraged to step forward and contribute towards saving lives within the community.

“Every donation, whether blood or organ pledge, can make a life-changing difference to patients and their families during critical moments.”

Successful donors will receive goodie bags as a token of appreciation for their generosity and commitment to humanitarian service.

The organisers also urged first-time donors to participate, assuring that trained medical personnel and nurses will be present to ensure safety and comfort.

For further information or enquiries, members of the public may contact Wendy at 019-8182244 for assistance and clarification.

The organisers expressed hope that strong community support will help stabilise blood supplies and reinforce the spirit of compassion during the fasting month.
