KUCHING: The best celebrations are those shared with love, compassion and support.

A warm and welcoming atmosphere filled the air during the Ramah Mesra Kasih event, hosted by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry at Wisma SABATI.
The Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, personally connected with people from all walks of life, making the event even more special.

According to the organisers, this annual celebration has been held for many years, and this year’s event was undoubtedly the most vibrant to date.
“The turnout today has been truly incredible.
“It’s heartening to see individuals from various backgrounds coming together to enjoy a meal, not just those from our target groups,” said Fitri Zainal from the National Welfare Foundation (YKN).
Members of the disabled community (OKU), single mothers, senior citizens and B40 families sat side-by-side, savouring a wide range of mouth-watering dishes served by local food vendors.
The event radiated warmth and inclusivity, free from rigid formalities or social barriers.
Instead of formalities, Nancy greeted attendees with genuine smiles, heartfelt conversations and warm embraces – creating an environment of closeness and mutual respect.
“I’m really happy to be here. I get to celebrate Hari Raya with everyone and enjoy the delicious food,” shared Sataria Sam from the Sarawak Cheshire Home.
She also revealed that this was her first time attending the Ramah Tamah Mesra event organised by the Ministry and expressed hope to return next year.
Similarly, 70-year-old Sim Boi Kheng from Rumah Seri Kenangan shared that this was also her first experience at the event.
Dressed in a lovely blue blouse with light makeup, Sim’s cheerful spirit shone through.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to be part of the event.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the organisers for inviting us to such a warm and welcoming celebration.
“It truly is a wonderful experience to feel the festive spirit all around,” she said.
Also present was Abdul Razak, a regular attendee from Rumah Seri Kenangan, who expressed his excitement at returning to the event again.
“It’s the sense of togetherness. It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone is included,” he said.
He added that, like every year, the event never fails to make guests feel comfortable, and ensures they leave with full hearts and satisfied appetites.
Today’s gathering was a heartfelt testament to the power of community, with many touching and emotional moments unfolding throughout the day.
It was especially moving to witness an elderly guest embracing a volunteer tightly, whispering words of gratitude, and to see groups of single mothers sharing stories, laughter and quiet strength.
More than just a community programme, this event served as a bridge.
It connects people and reminds us of our shared humanity.
It reinforces that even in the face of hardship, there are always hands ready to help and hearts willing to listen.
