KUCHING: Ranchan Pool, popularly known as Ranchan Point in Serian, is set for an upgrade aimed at restoring its reputation as a cherished nature getaway, especially known for its scenic waterfall and the pool at its base.
Once a favourite spot for family picnics and social gatherings, the attraction has seen a decline due to outdated and poorly maintained facilities, diminishing its appeal as a natural retreat.
With funding for the upgrading project now secured and approved, Serian District Council Chairman, Datuk Peter Minos, has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the improvement works.
Facilities such as the canteen, toilets, baruk, and chalets – many of which have been out of service or underperforming – have hindered visitors from fully enjoying the site’s natural offerings.
According to Minos, an experienced architect consultant with expertise in landscaping, tourism and local culture will be appointed to ensure that the planned upgrades preserve the site’s natural charm and cultural significance.
“Once the improvements are completed, I will promote the place as one of the beautiful tourist and cultural centres of Sarawak,” he said.
He also revealed that the council has plans to redevelop another potential eco-tourism site along the Serian-Tebedu Road, featuring a large waterfall and a mountain stream.
“We will call it ‘Tebedu Waterfall’, envisioned as another eco-tourism hotspot in the future, and we will look for funds to implement the project,” he said.
“We must make full use of our natural environment for tourism, as nothing compares to the wonders of nature.
“People from Kuching are growing tired of concrete jungles, and will go to great lengths to find places that offer the beauty and sounds of the natural world.”
