LIMBANG: The RM20 million Rangau River Waterfront Project has achieved over 90 per cent physical completion and is expected to be fully completed ahead of its original schedule.
Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the project, implemented by the Limbang District Council, was initially slated for completion on April 30 but is now expected to be fully ready by February.
He said the waterfront development would not only enhance the landscape aesthetics of the area but also serve as a new tourism attraction capable of stimulating the local economy.
“We are also very grateful to the Premier for approving this project for the development and progress of Limbang,” he told reporters during a visit to the project site here on Friday (Feb 13).
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said that well-planned and responsive infrastructure development remains a priority of the Sarawak government in ensuring the wellbeing of the people and unlocking tourism potential, particularly in rural areas.
Earlier, he also visited Taman Sungai Kaban with technical agencies, including the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and the Limbang District Council, to address flash flood issues in the residential area.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage has agreed to carry out desilting works on clogged drains and undertake maintenance of the drainage system leading to Sungai Limbang.
The maintenance works will be incorporated into an annual schedule, to be carried out three times a year to ensure the drainage system remains in good condition.
“Desilting and drainage maintenance works will be conducted periodically and included in the annual schedule three times a year.
“We also want the relevant agencies to continuously monitor basic infrastructure such as roads and drainage to reduce the occurrence of flash floods.
“The public is encouraged to channel any complaints to the relevant authorities so that immediate action can be taken.”
