DOHA: An unusually severe thunderstorm for commonly dry Qatar, with thunder, lightning, and heavy rain, hit Doha and its suburbs, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the city.
The storm hit the Qatari capital on Sunday night. Lightning strikes brightened the sky, and the rain poured down in such thick sheets that it steamed. The thunderclaps were so loud and frequent that Qataris, accustomed to air defences during the war with Iran, initially thought they were explosions.
