KUALA LUMPUR: United Arab Emirates (UAE) Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, has awarded the Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science to Professor Omar Yaghi, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, during the 17th International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM).
The biennial prize recognises outstanding contributions to materials science and its applications in addressing global challenges, including clean energy, carbon capture, and sustainable technologies.
In a statement, Sheikh Saud said Yaghi’s work is a source of pride and inspiration for young Arabs.
“His achievements remind us that talent, determination and learning can transcend borders and help shape a better future for all,” he said.
The award highlights Ras Al Khaimah’s growing role as a global centre for scientific research, innovation, and collaboration through IWAM, which brings together leading scientists, researchers, and scholars to explore advanced materials in sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental resilience.
The Sheikh Saud Prize reflects Sheikh Saud’s commitment to science as a cornerstone of human progress and sustainable development.
IWAM provides a platform for knowledge exchange between world-leading experts and the next generation of researchers, strengthening international collaboration and contributing to global scientific advancement.
