KUCHING: The celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri serves as an important platform in strengthening unity and fostering a spirit of togetherness among Sarawak’s multi-racial society.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the open house tradition commonly practised during Aidilfitri reflects the values of harmony, as people from all backgrounds come together, interact and share their blessings.

He also reiterated that the celebration highlights the uniqueness of a society that lives in peace, mutual respect and appreciation of cultural diversity, forming a strong foundation for building a stable and resilient state.

“Hari Raya is the best time for us to come together once more to share meals, spend time with our families and strengthen ties among members of the community who may have been separated due to daily commitments,” he said in his 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri special address.

Dr Sim added that the nature of caring and mutual assistance demonstrated throughout the festive season reflect the character of a community that constantly looks out for one another.

“It is not only through financial contributions, but also through a caring attitude and mutual respect that this state continues to be respected and appreciated,” he said.
