KUCHING: Like a never-ending party, the Borderland Music Festival 2025 transformed the foot of Mount Santubong on Saturday night into a neon city with the pounding beats of international music that shook the souls of thousands of fans.
From the very first moment the ‘happy hardcore’ music played, big names like Beauz, Wiwek, Gammer, and many more were accompanied by the thunderous cheers of visitors.
The audience jumped in unison, hands in the air, faces glowing under the radiant lights. One performance after another seemed to leave no room to breathe.
Before their appearance, earlier performers like Nng by Rhythm Revolt had captured attention with their energetic beats, while Raq Kid sparked a wave of uninterrupted dancing. By the time Tiger Burger took the stage, the audience had already lost themselves in the boundless world of music.
However, amidst all the excitement, there was a moment that could not be forgotten. The closing night was abruptly halted, causing the highly anticipated performance by the headliner, Darren Styles, to be cancelled.
The organisers issued an apology on Sunday via an Instagram post, explaining that the cancellation was due to circumstances beyond their control.
“We sincerely apologise for the sudden cancellation. Your safety is our priority,” said the statement.
For many attendees, this news was a huge disappointment. Those who had waited for hours expressed their dissatisfaction on social media, some even describing the night as “incomplete”.
Darren Styles himself took to Instagram Stories to reassure his fans. He said he had been ready backstage before being informed that the event had to be stopped.
“I truly apologise. I will return to Sarawak,” he said, giving a glimmer of hope to his loyal followers.
Earlier, as early as 4:00 pm, thousands of fans flooded the Sarawak Cultural Village. Some carried the state flag, others appeared in neon styles, all preparing for the festival’s peak night.
For local artistes, the opportunity to share the stage with global names was a valuable experience. They saw Borderland not just as a festival, but as a stepping stone to expand their talents and reach a global audience.
The presence of thousands of visitors also had a direct impact on the tourism industry. Local hotels were fully booked, local vendors benefited, and Sarawak’s creative economy gained more attention.
The Borderland Music Festival 2025 ultimately stood not only as a music party but as a symbol of how Sarawak is now on the global map of entertainment events.
From the pounding bass to the cheers of the crowd, this festival left a collective memory that Bumi Kenyalang (Sarawak) is now ready to become an international music destination.
