SIBU: The Oya Road Polyclinic here, which has been deemed a dangerous building by the Public Works Department (PWD) due to structural tilting, will be included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for reconstruction if it receives approval from the relevant authorities.

Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling stated that the clinic is expected to be rebuilt at its original location once funding is allocated.

“During the reconstruction period, all sections of the Oya Polyclinic will be temporarily relocated to the 15 shoplot units near the Sungai Merah police station at Wawasan Road, in the Unicity area, where services for the public will continue.

“I have raised this issue with the Ministry of Health (MOH) during the ongoing Parliament sitting,” he said on Wednesday.

Ling stated that in reponse to his query about the reconstruction of the Polyclinic, the Minister of Health confirmed that if the project receives the necessary approvals and funding, it will be included in the 13MP and rebuilt at the same site.

According to him, during the construction period, the clinic’s sections will continue serving the people of Sibu from the shoplots on Wawasan Road.

He added that the local public feedback has shown strong objection to relocating the clinic elsewhere, and therefore, rebuilding it at its original site is likely the most favourable option in line with public sentiment.

He also mentioned that he had visited the the PolyClinic earlier, accompanied by the Polyclinic’s doctor in charge, to inspect the building’s condition.
