LUNDU: A driver of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that was recently caught on video overtaking dangerously along Kilometre 27, Jalan Lundu-Bau, has surrendered to the police and was issued with a summons.
The 39-second video clip, recorded by a dashcam from another vehicle, had gone viral on social media after the incident occurred at 12:43 pm on July 20.
The video showed the MPV overtaking in a reckless manner, sparking criticism over the driver’s actions, which were deemed to have endangered other road users.
Lundu District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) said the driver of the said vehicle was identified following investigations and intelligence work carried out by its team.
“The owner and driver of the MPV came forward and surrendered at the BSPTD Lundu office at 10:30 am today to assist with the investigation,” it said in a statement.
It added that the driver admitted to the offence under Rule 6(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 166/59, and a summons was later issued for dangerous overtaking.
