BINTULU: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) recently hosted a high-level Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) Investors’ Engagement Meeting at Samalaju Resort here.
It brought together key industry stakeholders and government agencies for a focused dialogue on enhancing investor support and tackling operational challenges.
The half-day session, led by RECODA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, included representatives from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU), UNIMAS Business School, and Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd.
“Samalaju Industrial Park continues to play a significant role in driving Sarawak’s industrial growth.
“RECODA remains committed to supporting this progress through continuous investor aftercare and infrastructure improvements,” Ismawi said in his opening address.
Among the key developments presented was the Samalaju Water Supply Project, which will increase treated water capacity from 80 million litres per day (MLD) to 200 MLD.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2025 and be completed by late 2028.
Additionally, RECODA provided updates on the construction of a 6-kilometre dual carriageway (C1 Road) within the park, currently in progress and slated for completion by February 2027.
Ismawi emphasised that strong infrastructure and open dialogue are crucial to maintaining Sarawak’s competitiveness and attracting investors.
“Strong infrastructure is fundamental to investor confidence.
“Equally important is meaningful dialogue. That’s why platforms like today’s are crucial, not only for updates but also for ensuring Sarawak remains a competitive and business-friendly destination,” Ismawi emphasised.
The session also featured a briefing on the Inisiatif Pendapatan Rakyat – Usahawan Makanan (IPR-INSAN) programme, under the Ministry of Economy, designed to uplift the B40 and hardcore poor through micro-entrepreneurship.
The programme supports participants in operating modern vending machines that offer ready-to-eat meals, with five out of nine identified sites operating in Sarawak.
RECODA encouraged SIP investors to explore opportunities to host IPR-INSAN vending machines at their facilities as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“This initiative aligns with our inclusive development approach, ensuring the benefits of industrialisation extend to the wider community,” Ismawi said.
The engagement concluded with a robust exchange of ideas, reinforcing RECODA’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient, investor-friendly ecosystem at Samalaju Industrial Park.
