SAMARAHAN: A total of 1,112 new students from the 17th cohort of the Centre for Pre-University Studies (PPPU), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), took the student pledge at the UNIMAS Hall, today (June 15).

The Student Pledge Ceremony is a part of the 2026/2027 Student Welcome & Orientation Week (MAP), marking the largest intake since PPPU was established in 2010, and the pledge reflected their commitment to upholding integrity, responsibility, and ethical conduct as members of the university community.

The students will be enrolling in the Foundations of Life Sciences, Foundations of Physical Sciences, Foundations of Computing and International Foundation in Science programmes.

Student representatives reciting the pledge

Officiated by UNIMAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, he said that the Student Pledge Ceremony is more than just a symbolic university tradition.

“It is an internal commitment and a promise born from self-awareness of the responsibility and trust you carry as a student.

“It is also a pledge to yourself to persevere through challenges, to honour your family’s sacrifices through your efforts and success, and to uphold the good name, integrity, and values of this institution,” he said during his speech.

He also emphasised UNIMAS’ commitment as a university that practices a Community-Driven approach in ensuring that the knowledge learned has a direct connection to the needs of society and national development.

“Through the UNIMAS strategic plan 2026–2030, we are committed to producing graduates who are ready to face the future through the IDEA framework, namely inspiring people, driving innovation, expanding global influence, and strengthening sustainability.

“You are part of the generation that will shape the future of the country, and as you recite the pledge, let it guide you throughout your academic journey.”
