BETONG: Two championship records and a Best Female Athlete title highlighted a memorable outing for SMK Saribas at the 2026 Betong Division Schools Sports Council (MSSB) Athletics Championships as the school marked its 60th anniversary.
The achievement was complemented by a third-place overall finish after the school collected 13 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals.
Leading the celebrations was Beatrice Carlessa Reddy, who was named Best Female Athlete in the Under-15 category after breaking the championship record in the girls’ discus with a throw of 25.07 metres.
SMK Saribas added another championship record through Dayang Haldia Hazwani Hajemy, who produced a winning throw of 9.98m in the girls’ Under-18 shot put to prove the school’s strength in field events.
The school also emerged victorious in both the boys’ and girls’ Under-15 4x100m relay events.
The 44-athlete contingent was led by principal and head of contingent Nur Liana Lim Abdullah, assisted by team manager Azmi Abdullah, head coach Noor Habbeburahim Khasbi and a team of 11 coaches.
Noor Habbeburahim attributed the success to the collective commitment shared by the coaching staff.
“When all the coaches share the same passion, coaching athletes is no longer just a responsibility but a purpose.
“We are not only aiming to see them win medals, but to develop disciplined, resilient athletes who are willing to challenge themselves.
Today’s success is the result of everyone’s sacrifice,” he said.
Nur Liana described the result as a fitting way to commemorate the school’s diamond jubilee.
“This achievement is especially meaningful as SMK Saribas celebrates its 60th anniversary.
“I hope this success inspires more students to take up sports and continue bringing glory to the school at higher levels. My sincere appreciation goes to our coaches, parents, school community and athletes for their extraordinary commitment.

“May this fighting spirit continue to drive SMK Saribas towards greater excellence,” she said.
