DEBAK: Holders of late-registered birth certificates marked in red are advised to check their documents to ensure key information, particularly race, is clearly stated to avoid future complications.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said complete and accurate identification documents are essential, as birth certificates may be used by authorities as official references for identity verification, including the determination of a person’s race.

“Anyone who has a red late-registered birth certificate needs to carefully examine the information contained in it.

“If race is not stated in the document, it should be amended because one day we do not know when the authorities may need to use the document to determine whether you are Iban, Malay or of another race.

“If such information is not available, it can cause problems, as I personally experienced a few months ago,” he told reporters during the ‘Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ programme and the Bukit Saban Mobile Service Counter held at Rumah Panjang Rayong, Nanga Lop, Rimbas, here recently.

Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, advised holders of late-registered birth certificates to visit the National Registration Department (JPN) to update their documents.

“The process is not complicated. JPN will issue you a new duplicate birth certificate with complete race information, and that will resolve any potential issues in the future,” he said.
