MIRI: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Miri District has reached out to families in need in the Lambir area with a community service programme that blended practical support with a spirit of solidarity.
The initiative, organised through the branch’s Community Service and Welfare Committee, underscored MRCS’s long-standing role as a first responder in both humanitarian relief and grassroots engagement.
The day began with volunteers assembling at the MRCS headquarters in Miri before setting off to the designated villages.
Residents greeted them warmly, setting the tone for a day marked by compassion and connection.
Families received food baskets containing essential items, easing the burden of daily living costs.
Residents also took part in a public awareness session covering health, hygiene and social responsibility. The session was aimed at encouraging better practices and fostering community resilience.
A group photo later captured the camaraderie of volunteers and residents alike, a moment reflecting both unity and renewed hope.
“This effort was not just about providing aid, but about building bridges with the community,” said Dr Uma Devi, chairperson of the Community Care and Protection Sub-committee.
Other volunteers included committee member VP Govindasamy, along with MRC Miri staff Sophia Atikah and Hismawi Ahmad.
MRCS Miri has called on more members of the public to step forward and join future outreach efforts.
