MIRI: The Welfare, Health & Community Sub-Committee of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch, in collaboration with the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), recently extended support to two families facing socio-economic challenges in Tudan Desaras and Kampung Masjid Kuala Baram.

Dr Uma Devi, chairperson of the Sub-Committee, led the initiative, delivering a brief talk to the families on key topics such as the dangers of plastic, the importance of cleanliness and the benefits of maintaining a healthy diet.

Following her session, Shobri Mohamed and Dayang Siti provided a briefing on services offered by the Miri City Council (MCC)  and guidance on how to address community-related issues with the Council.

In addition, Aaron Ismanto Anggang shared insights on safe methods for storing drinking water, underscoring the importance of hygiene in daily life.

As part of their visit, the team distributed stainless-steel food containers to the families, emphasising the risks associated with using plastic containers.

These containers were generously donated by a group of anonymous benefactors, to whom the MRC Miri Branch expressed its gratitude.

Other essential supplies, including dry food items and clothing, were also provided.

The volunteers, comprising 12 individuals led by Dr Uma, contributed various items such as food, soap, and other necessities to support the families.

The information about the families in need was provided by local community leaders and schools, ensuring that assistance reached those most in need of help.

“This is part of our ongoing effort to improve the community’s well-being. We hope more volunteers will come forward to join us in making a positive impact,” said Dr Uma.

The MRC Miri Branch plans to organise similar visits in the future, continuing its mission to foster a more resilient and supportive community.
