SIMANGGANG: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sri Aman District has acquired its first ambulance valued at RM200,000 to strengthen community healthcare services in rural areas.
The new ambulance service was officially launched by Sri Aman Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie, at the organisation’s operations centre on Saturday (Feb 21).
Doris said the asset reflects MRC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening grassroots healthcare support networks.
“Services like this are crucial to ensure that no community is left behind in accessing treatment, especially vulnerable groups and disaster victims.
“I hope more parties, including the corporate sector, will come forward to support this noble effort to enhance healthcare services and volunteer training in Sri Aman,” she said.
At the same event, she also announced a RM10,000 allocation from the Sri Aman Parliamentary Service Centre to support MRC Sri Aman District’s operations in expanding healthcare services to the local community.
Meanwhile, MRC Sri Aman District chairman, Isaac Stalin Simon, said the ambulance was funded by a donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is expected to have a significant impact on community-level healthcare delivery.
He said that the desire to have its own ambulance had been expressed since the 2024 World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebration and was realised in October 2025 through cooperation with various parties, including automotive company, Toyota.
“The ambulance is a non-emergency vehicle to be used for transporting patients to clinics or hospitals, as well as supporting first-aid duties during sports events and community programmes.
“The need for patient transportation, especially for the elderly, chronic patients, and underprivileged individuals, is very significant in this district. With this ambulance, patient transport for treatment will become more organised and safer,” he said.
