LONDON: Brazilian starlet Estevao netted his first Chelsea goal to hand Liverpool a 2-1 defeat on Saturday, marking the Reds’ third consecutive loss and allowing Arsenal to climb to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Arne Slot’s men, who began the season with seven straight victories in all competitions, endured another setback as injury-hit Chelsea produced a spirited display at Stamford Bridge to snap their own winless run.

Moises Caicedo opened the scoring with a thunderous strike in the 14th minute, before Cody Gakpo equalised just after the hour following a clever assist from Alexander Isak. But deep into stoppage time, Estevao slid in to meet Marc Cucurella’s cross and seal a dramatic victory, prompting wild celebrations from Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who was sent off for his touchline sprint.

Liverpool now sit one point behind Arsenal, while Chelsea move up to sixth.

At the London Stadium, goals from Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka gave Mikel Arteta’s Gunners a comfortable win, though captain Martin Odegaard limped off injured before half-time. – AFP
