Mother’s Day, celebrated today, is more than just a physical celebration of mothers; it is an opportunity to recognise their countless sacrifices, which are often overlooked by many.
Beyond the cards, flowers or gifts that have come to symbolise the day, it is a moment to ponder the profound roles of mothers in shaping lives, nurturing dreams and providing steadfast support.
This special day reminds people around the world to express their love, show gratitude and honour the immense efforts mothers put into raising their families. From sleepless nights tending to newborns to offering life-long guidance and care, a mother’s devotion often knows no bounds. Yet, in the hustle of daily life, these contributions can sometimes fade into the background, making it all the more important to pause and appreciate them.
In a conversation with Sarawak Tribune, individuals from various walks of life shared how they sincerely and joyfully celebrated Mother’s Day.
Whether through small, heartfelt gestures, quiet moments of connection, or grand celebrations, each story reflected a deep understanding of the unique and invaluable role mothers play in their lives.
For many, the day is not just about celebration — it’s about gratitude, reflection and love.

‘At our school, we celebrate Mother’s Day with activities like creating greeting cards and special song performances. Students are also invited to write short letters to their mothers and read them aloud in front of the class.
‘In class, we hold a sharing session where students talk about the sacrifices their mothers have made. Another activity is the creation of a ‘Tree of Love,’ where each student writes a message of appreciation on paper leaves and hangs them on the bulletin board.
‘The students are always so proud and earnest when sharing stories about their mothers’ love and greatness. Some even excitedly show off the cards or gifts they’ve prepared.
‘I believe when children learn to appreciate their mothers from an early age, it helps build stronger family bonds and encourages them to be more loving and responsible as they grow older.’

‘My children wrote me a deeply emotional letter, expressing their gratitude and how much they appreciate everything I do for them. I was incredibly touched and grateful. Even though the gift was small, it was filled with love and effort, making it the most meaningful present I ever received.
‘For me, Mother’s Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices mothers make. It’s a moment to appreciate a mother who constantly offers love without expecting anything in return.
‘I will never forget the moment my children surprised me with a special Mother’s Day video message. It was deeply moving and a meaningful gesture I will always cherish.’
