KUCHING: A total of 18 co-operative officers, including nine from Sabah began a three-day refresher course in Co-operative Management and Delivery Centre Operation at Merdeka Palace Hotel here on Monday.

The course was declared open by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. “I wish to congratulate the Malaysia Co-operative Commission (MCC) for organising this course to improve the knowledge and cooperating skills of its officers.

“I hope the participants will be able to gain knowledge and utilise it to assist and resolve in issues relating to co-operatives,” said Tengah. He said various encouragement schemes had also been provided by the government to assist co-operatives in both the wholesale and retail sectors.

“For instant, the Federal government through MCC has provided various incentives to ensure that cooperatives remain active and competitive. “The State government also welcomes the co-operative schemes implemented by the Federal government, such as the RM300,000 grant – RM150,000 for upgrading the premises and the remaining RM150,000 in the form of loans.
