KUCHING: The public, especially residents living in areas at risk of flooding, have been urged to register at temporary relief centres (PPS) to ensure no one is left behind should evacuation becomes necessary.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stressed that this important so that no victims are left behind or not identified when the authorities carry out rescue operations or distribute essential aid to those affected by the flood.
“We urge the public, the first thing to do when there is a flood is to move to PPS or register yourself so that we know where you are, so it is easy for us to offer help.
“So that’s why we created PPS and the main purpose is to channel aid, food, and make sure people have a shelter besides ensuring the victims’ are in good health,” he said to reporters at PPS Dewan Haji Kamaruddin, Segedup, on Saturday.
As for victims stranded due to flooding, he said, they must immediately contact the secretariat so that rescue efforts can be carried out as soon as possible.
“For example, in Bintulu we sent two helicopters to deliver food supplies as there were areas that were cut off.
“We have logistical needs such as boats, but looking at the strong flow of water, it may not be safe yet for those on duty to deliver food,” he said.
Also present was Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata.
