KUCHING: Registered childcare centres (TASKA) nationwide will be issued plaques displaying their registration numbers, marking them as officially recognised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

Its minister, TASKA said that the ministry will roll out a new initiative starting January 1, next year to ensure greater transparency and safety for parents selecting TASKA for their children.
She said the initiative is crucial in addressing concerns about unregistered daycare centres, which could pose risks to children’s safety and well-being.
“We will place a plaque in registered TASKA, indicating their registration number. This plaque will be displayed on the wall of the childcare centre or inside it.
“This will help parents to identify registered TASKA. If they come across a childcare centre without such a plaque, it means it is not registered,” she said.
She said this when delivering her talking point during the Sarawak Media Night & Sembang Santai programme at a hotel here last night (Dec 7).
Nancy also said the initiative will act as a guide for parents to differentiate between registered and unregistered TASKA.
Meanwhile, she also pointed out that starting next year, the ministry will also introduce new mental health awareness efforts, including public restroom signage encouraging individuals to seek help if they are struggling.
“We notice that many people are dealing with mental depression these days, especially children. We don’t want children to be affected in this way. So, we are working on this.
“For next year, we must implement something new in all public restrooms. There will be signs saying, “Okay, are you okay?” or something like “If I’m not okay, what should I do?”.
“There will also be a contact number they can call. This is a new innovation we are introducing,” she added.
The programme attracted over 100 media practitioners from local and national press, who gathered to gain deeper insights into the ministry’s initiatives as explained by the minister.
Some fortunate members of the press also won exciting prizes during a lucky draw held as part of the event.
