THE growth of poultry, duck, pig farming and freshwater fisheries in the Krian area has prompted calls for the reinstatement of the Agricultural Facilitation Fund (AFF) to support local farmers.

Krian state assemblyman, Friday Belik, said the initiative is vital to assist the development of agriculture in the region, in line with requests from farmers seeking government support.

“Based on the applications received, I urge that allocations for poultry, duck, pig farming, and freshwater fisheries be increased to meet demand.

“Agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides, and other essentials should also be provided to ease the burden on farmers given the rising cost of materials. I appeal to the government to reinstate the AFF,” he said.

Friday raised the subject while debating the State Budget 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

He also called for greater financial support for farmers through schemes, farm road assistance, and other initiatives aimed at modernising agriculture.

Highlighting ongoing challenges in marketing, he proposed establishing a mini Collection, Processing, and Packaging Centre (CPPC) in Saratok to complement the existing CPPC in Bebuling Spaoh.

“Such a facility could help resolve marketing issues for crops and products produced by local farmers,” he said.

In addition, Friday suggested introducing modern agricultural training for youth, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), to encourage young people to actively participate in agriculture and enhance their expertise for the future.
