Remains of Beaufort electrocution victim arrive in Sibu

SIBU: The remains of Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, who died after being electrocuted in Beaufort, Sabah, arrived at Sibu Airport this evening.

Chiu, 40, who was attached to the Weston Police Station in Beaufort, was one of the three policemen who died in the incident along Jalan Weston, Kampung Weston, on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 6).

Chiu’s remains arrived at Sibu Airport at about 5:50 pm, and were received by Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, together with senior police officers and about 25 personnel from the Sibu District Police Headquarters.

A tribute was also held at the airport, led by Abang Zainal Abidin and attended by senior and junior police officers.

The remains were then taken to the Sibu Mortuary Hall on Jalan Bukit Lima.

The remains will be taken to Nirvana Sibu at 7:30 am tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 8) for cremation, according to the family’s wishes.

The arrangements for receiving and transporting the remains proceeded smoothly.

The three policemen died after they were believed to have been electrocuted while picking coconuts along Jalan Weston.

The two other victims are Lance Corporal Mohammad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 39, from Kelantan, and Lance Corporal Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26, from Terengganu.
