SIBU: Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, has urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams after his service centre here recently assisted a victim in lodging a police report.


The victim, who was not fluent in Malay, sought help from Tiang’s service centre, where his team accompanied the individual to the police station to file the report.


Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman praised the victim’s bravery in sharing his experience, stressing that such cases serve as a timely reminder for others to be cautious.


He highlighted several common tactics used by scammers such as promises of earning money by completing “tasks” on online shopping platforms; unfamiliar links, especially those that redirect repeatedly to different websites; and investment opportunities” promoted through online gambling platforms.


“Scammers are constantly devising new tactics to deceive people. The only effective way to protect ourselves and our families is to stay vigilant and never trust easily,” Tiang stressed.
