SIBU: Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and Lanang MP, Alice Lau has distributed various forms of welfare aid to a total of 69 individuals during a recent presentation ceremony.
During the event, Lau also distributed Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to 17 organisations to support community development initiatives.
“We hope the recipients can feel the warmth of our society. At the same time, we want to encourage more people to show compassion and extend help to those truly in need, to express a caring and compassionate society,” she said in a press statement yesterday (July2).
Among the welfare aid distributed were dialysis machines, educational aid, death benefits, medical support, benefits for newborns in Lanang, and other forms of community assistance.
Alice also noted that individuals in need of long-term treatment, such as dialysis or cancer patients, may apply for aid through her service centre on a yearly basis.
In line with her continued support for families, she introduced the “Welcome, Lanang New Born!” initiative in September 2024 under the “Program Sayangi Lanang” series.
Under this programme, babies born on or after September 16, 2024, with at least one biological parent registered as a voter in Lanang, are eligible for newborn benefits.
“Parents are required to submit copies of both parents’ identity cards and the baby’s birth certificate to Pusat Khidmat P211 Lanang within 90 days of birth to apply for the benefits,” she said.
Lau reminded all recipients of an organisation on the importance of accountability. She stressed that recipients must submit reports on the use of MRP grants after organising their events.
“This culture of transparency and integrity is crucial. Organisations that fail to submit their reports will be blacklisted and may have their future applications rejected,” she warned.
