LUNDU: Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang reaffirmed his commitment to preserving Dayak heritage, pledging continued support for initiatives that empower and uphold the community’s cultural identity.

Billy praised the efforts of local non-governmental organisation (NGO), Serakup Bala Dayak Lang Ngindang, for championing the preservation of Dayak customs and traditions.

“I urge all Community Leaders and Village Chiefs to give their full support to Lang Ngindang, which plays a vital role in safeguarding our cultural heritage,” he said during the third anniversary celebration of Rumah Adat Lang Ngindang in Kampung Perian on Saturday.

To support the NGO’s initiatives, Billy announced plans to assist in constructing a new semi-concrete building near the existing Rumah Adat to provide additional space for community activities and gatherings.

The event drew more than 100 guests, including villagers, community leaders, and cultural activists who gathered in a spirit of unity and cultural pride.

Billy also highlighted various development projects implemented across villages in the Opar constituency, crediting their success to the strong backing of the state government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“I am not here to campaign. Let the people judge my performance as their elected representative,” he added.

He also encouraged students who have received offers to pursue higher education to visit the Opar Constituency Service Centre and apply for the RM500 financial aid.

The celebration was organised by Serakup Bala Dayak Lang Ngindang, an active NGO dedicated to preserving and promoting Dayak traditions through cultural programmes and community events.
