BINTULU: Community leaders and local residents have been urged to continue giving their full cooperation to implementing government agencies to ensure that every development project in rural areas can be carried out smoothly and according to the set schedule.
Jepak assemblyman, Iskandar Turkee, said strong cooperation between local communities, village committees and implementing agencies was vital to ensure that every approved project truly benefitted the people.
“I call on community leaders, Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), and residents to continue working closely with contractors and implementing departments.
“We want all projects to run smoothly without any problems because every project implemented is for the well-being of the people themselves,” he said.
He said this after handing over a drainage system upgrading project at Rumah Mering Eba, Sungai Selad, Jalan Bintulu–Tatau, yesterday.
According to Iskandar, the RM200,000 project was implemented under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation for Jepak constituency in 2025, with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Bintulu Division as the implementing agency.
The project involves the construction of concrete drains at the front and back sections of the longhouse.
“The residents of Rumah Mering Eba have set a good example by giving their full cooperation to the contractor. This is important to ensure that the project can be completed within the stipulated period,” he added.
The project aims to ensure proper water flow in the hilly area, thereby reducing the risk of landslides during the rainy season.
Rumah Mering Eba, which consists of 30 doors (units), is currently in the implementation phase, with excavation work for the rear drainage section already underway.
“The construction of the 400-metre concrete drain is expected to be completed by February next year. We believe this drainage system will provide comfort and safety to the residents,” Iskandar added.
At the same time, he stressed that the Jepak Constituency Service Centre was always open to receiving complaints, suggestions and reports from community leaders to ensure public issues could be addressed promptly and effectively.
“If an issue falls outside our jurisdiction, we will act as a liaison to relevant government agencies such as the District Office, Public Works Department (JKR), or DID to find the best solution. What matters most is communication and cooperation among all parties,” he added.
