SARATOK: Concerns have been raised over the condition of the pontoon at the main jetty along the Saratok waterfront, with just 10 days left before the Kalaka Regatta kicks off on July 11.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has called on the contractor in charge of repair works to prioritize the safety and readiness of the pontoon ahead of the event, which will draw crowds to Sungai Krian.
“Our main concern right now is that the pontoon at the jetty is still not operational.
“As such, we have requested the Saratok Public Works Department (JKR) to discuss with the contractor carrying out the repair works to ensure that the pontoon can be safely used by the public,” he told Suara Sarawak yesterday.
He stressed that the contractor must act swiftly to resolve the issue at the jetty.
“I must emphasise that it’s not just about completing the repairs, it must also be safe for public use.
“We are well aware that during regatta season, the area will be a focal point, and this is one of the main jetties used by residents.
“Therefore, with around 10 days remaining, I hope the JKR and the contractor will come up with the best possible solution,” he added.
He also advised the public not to politicize the issue, noting that the authorities are committed to resolving it efficiently.
