KUCHING: Immediate repairs will be carried out on the temporary wooden jetty at Telaga Air following safety concerns raised by residents who have been using the structure since the main Pontoon Jetty collapsed.

Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said she has received numerous complaints from Kampung Telaga Air villagers, who rely on the jetty as their main route, including students travelling to school.

Following these complaints, Nancy said she personally went to the ground to inspect the jetty together with the relevant technical agencies.

“The collapse of the main jetty has forced residents to use a temporary wooden jetty, which is now in a deteriorated state and poses a high risk to users’ safety,” she said in a Facebook post today (Nov 16).

She said she was briefed by the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), Kuching Division Public Works Department (PWD), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), and the Sarawak Rivers Board (LSS).

Nancy said immediate steps will be taken to repair the temporary wooden jetty as a safety measure while waiting for LSS to complete its investigation into the collapse of the Pontoon Jetty at Esplanade Telaga Air.

“God willing, we will try to carry out the repairs as best as possible to ensure residents have a safer route while the investigation process is underway. May this matter be eased,” she said.
