MUKAH: A man with nine prior drug-related offences was among two locals arrested for suspected drug abuse in Kampung Tegak yesterday.

The operation, carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) at around 2 pm, targeted a house suspected of being used for drug abuse activities.

Inside the house, police found the two men — aged 41 and 27 — and immediately conducted a search, but no drugs or illegal items were discovered.

Both suspects were later taken to Mukah district police headquarters (IPD) for further action, where urine tests confirmed they tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Police confirmed that one of the suspects was a repeat offender with nine prior drug cases.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and both men remain in custody at Mukah police lock-up pending further investigation.

Upon conviction, the offence carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, and placed under two years of supervision under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
