Repeat offender arrested for alleged drug abuse

SARATOK: Police have arrested a local man with a string of prior criminal and narcotics offences for allegedly abusing drugs during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ on Tuesday (Jan 6).

Acting on information, the district police task force conducted checks on the 45-year-old who was suspected of being involved in drug abuse in Kampung Hulu.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said he was later brought to the police station for further action.

“Urine screening tests showed the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Background checks found that the man has six previous records involving narcotics and other criminal offences,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years or both, upon conviction.

In addition, the suspect shall also be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
