PUSA: A local man with multiple prior records was arrested after narcotics police allegedly found drugs in his possession yesterday (Jul 13).
The 29-year-old was picked up by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 11.30am on suspicion of possessing drugs and involvement in drug-related activities.
A plastic packet containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine was seized.
Betong police chief DSP Wan Mohamad Ali Wan Malek said the suspect and the drugs were later taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
“A urine screening conducted at the NCID office returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks also found that the suspect has three prior records involving drug and criminal offences,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
He is also being probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
Wan Mohamad Ali said police view drug-related offences seriously and will not compromise in tackling the menace.
