SERIAN: Police have solved a house break-in and theft case, that left a homeowner facing losses of about RM2,000, with the arrest of a local man last Tuesday (Jan 27).
The 27-year-old suspect was picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at Kampung Tanah Puteh after police acted on intelligence gathered in the course of investigations.
Serian Police Chief, Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian, said the arrest is linked to a house break-in and theft reported on January 8 in the district.
“Background checks showed that the suspect has four prior records involving drug and property-related offences. A urine screening test also found him positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
The suspect is currently being held at Serian police lock-up to facilitate further investigations.
Freddy said the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning, upon conviction.
He will also be probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and continue channelling information on criminal activities to the district police headquarters (IPD) at 082-874201 or via Serian IPD Facebook page.
