Repeat offender nabbed over workshop break-in

DEBAK: Police have arrested a 23-year-old local man for allegedly breaking in and stealing from the equipment store of a vehicle workshop late last month.

The break-in occurred on Jul 29 when the suspect forced his way into the premises, making off with various workshop tools and vehicle components worth RM2,000.

Acting on gathered intelligence, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to arrest the suspect at around 11.40 am on Aug 7 in Lalang, Debak.

Betong police chief DSP Rejali Angong said police also recovered a hydraulic jack, which was among the items reported missing by the complainant.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days until Aug 12 to facilitate investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking-in and theft.

“If convicted, the offence carries up to 14 years in prison, and a possible fine or whipping for repeat offences,” he said.

Background checks found that the suspect, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, has two prior records involving drug abuse and property crime.

Rejali encouraged the public with information on any criminal activities, to come forward or contact the nearest police station.
