KOTA SAMARAHAN: Narcotics police arrested three local men for alleged involvement in drug abuse activities in Kampung Melayu last night (Aug 6).
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the arrests were made around 8.30 pm when the men were sitting at a food stall.
As the team approached the group and asked if they had any possession of illegal items, all three remained silent.
“Inspections on the first suspect, aged 39, led to the discovery of a small plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu, weighing 0.30g with an estimated value of RM33.
“Meanwhile, no illegal items were found on the other two suspects, aged 31 and 29. All three work as labourers,” he said.
Background checks found that the first suspect has no prior record, while the second suspect has three previous drug-related records and the third has one.
During interrogation, police found that the first suspect had been involved in drug abuse since early 2023 and obtained his supply via hand-to-hand transaction from an individual known only as ‘Apun’ in Kampung Melayu, often accompanied by the second and third suspects.
The second suspect had been abusing drugs since early 2024, while the third suspect admitted to starting in early 2023.
Preliminary urine tests confirmed that all three tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Damataries stated efforts are underway to identify and locate the unidentified drug supplier.
All suspects are being held at Kota Samarahan police station lock-up pending further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 for drug possession, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug abuse.
