SARIKEI: A total of 90 water tanks were distributed to seven longhouses in the Repok area during a handover ceremony recently.
The handover event, held at the N45 Repok Service Centre, was organised by the centre and attended by approximately 100 people.
The presentation of the water tanks was officiated by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, who represented Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, who is also Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
Among the recipient longhouses were Rumah Rabeling, Rumah Keli, Rumah Sabah, Rumah Endawi Mula, Rumah Rosyvia Ubak, Rumah Garai Chugat, and Genturung Pendiau.
This contribution of water tanks is an initiative driven by the concern of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government to improve access to clean and treated water for rural residents, especially in areas facing low water pressure and lack of treated water supply.
The residents of the affected longhouses expressed their deepest appreciation to Huang and the GPS Government for the aid, which they considered very meaningful and responsive to the basic needs of the local community.
