MULU: A joint rescue operation, involving the Mount Cave Search and Rescue (MOCSAR) team and the BORSAR Mulu unit, was launched today (Dec 8), to assist a 47-year-old BORSAR Mulu staff member, Donny Malang, who experienced breathing difficulties at Camp 5 in Mulu National Park.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre received a distress call at approximately 10.15 am, prompting an immediate response.

A rescue team, equipped with essential medical equipment, including a portable oxygen tank, an automated external defibrillator (AED), and a stretcher, was dispatched to the remote location.

The arduous journey to Camp 5 typically takes 4-5 hours one-way, involving a boat ride from Mulu to Kuala Litut, followed by a challenging trek.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, the operations centre has also requested a helicopter to expedite the rescue.

The aircraft is expected to arrive tomorrow (Dec 9) to transport Donny to Mulu Health Clinic for treatment.

Updates on his condition will be provided as the rescue mission progresses.
