Resolving issues faced by port users

BINTULU: The Bintulu Port Group of companies  attended a three-day  lab on the improvement of Samalaju Port operational capability.

Thw event was organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) together with Samalaju Port Authority.

Its objective was to identify and address the mitigation strategies that investors and port operators could implement to achieve a common goal.  

The lab was also attended by various agencies from the State Economic Planning Unit, RECODA, Marine Department, Sarawak State Ports Authority, Service Provider (Harbour Services Sdn Bhd & Intercargo Sdn Bhd), the investors of Samalaju Industrial Park and also the port operators.

Last month, MIPD Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, during   his visit to Samalaju Port, said that the ministry would find ways and solutions to solve the problems faced by the seven big companies operating in the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP).

Group Chief Executive Officer of Bintulu Port Group, Datuk Mohamad Medan Abdullah, visited Uggah in Kuching in the last two weeks to discuss the next steps and find solutions to the problems that  customers were experiencing experiencing.

“We acknowledge all of the port users’ concerns and feedback, and we take them seriously when it comes to the port’s performance.”

He said that in addition to the port operations, the total logistics chain had to be analysed, too, to ensure efficient and productive operations all around by all parties involved the logistics value chain.

“This is a strong message to our stakeholders that we are very serious about Delivering Operational Excellence and Ensuring Our Long-Term Sustainability Based on 3Ps (Profits, People, Planet) and we need to play our role as dedicated port service provider to facilitate the economic growth of Sarawak.” 

The lab was officially closed by Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi yesterday.

Majang stressed  all parties must come together and play their respective roles in mitigating the issues to ensure the state’s sustainability and investments that would benefit the people of Sarawak
