KUCHING: Youths of different races should understand and respect each other’s traditions and cultures, said Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He was commenting on the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement that the government was committed to safeguarding the heritage and traditions of all races in the state, especially those of the Malay community.

“It is what the government has been doing,” he said.

“Look at the Chinese heritage sites on the Kuching Waterfront. The treatment of safeguarding applies to all races.

“This is Sarawak’s uniqueness ― we fight and protect for all,” he told reporters yesterday after officiating at the Supermotor October 2019 yesterday at Bunga Sri Rampai Banquet Hall.

“In Sarawak, our strength is respect towards each other. By having respect, we are able to not only tolerate but also love and help each other.”

On the silat and hadrah performances, Fadillah said, “We should not only restore and protect such traditions but also to make the youths aware that they are part of Malay culture.”
