KOTA SAMARAHAN: The human capital development in Kota Samarahan must remain a priority to strengthen its role as a hub of knowledge and produce a competitive generation, said Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang.
“To further strengthen our role as a hub of knowledge, we must produce more scholars who can contribute not only to society but also to the Sarawak government in the future,” she said when officiating at the Jelajah Ilmu dan Motivasi SPM 2025 programme at Dewan Panca Delima, SMK Hajjah Laila Taib today.
Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan MP, said that her constituency had once lagged in education as many top students left for boarding schools.

However, she noted the situation has improved through infrastructure upgrades and government efforts.
“This gives me hope that human capital will become the main product of our hub for knowledge, ensuring students achieve the best results in examinations, including SPM and STPM,” she said.
Rubiah also reminded students that success requires discipline and consistent effort.
“There are no shortcuts. Learn with discipline, revise regularly and always ask your teachers when in doubt.
“Every hour spent will bring great results,” she added.
The programme, organised by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) with MARA’s Secondary Education Division (BPM), aims to bridge performance gaps between urban and rural students.
It provided exposure to effective study techniques, subject mastery in core areas, and strategies for answering questions in line with current exam formats.
The one-day event, supported by education experts, also offered motivational modules to help students identify their potential, build confidence and set clear learning goals.
More than 300 students from seven secondary schools in Kota Samarahan took part: SMK Asajaya, SMK Hajjah Laila Taib, SMK Kota Samarahan, SMK Muara Tuang, SMK Wira Penrissen, SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud and SMK Sadong Jaya.
