KUCHING: A 67-year-old retired civil servant died on the spot after he was knocked down by a lorry while he was crossing a road in front of private hospital at Jalan Rock here at about 9.30am yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Aleng @ Alling anak Dundang of Jalan Datuk Amar Stephen Yong near here.

Prior to the accident, Aleng has intended to take his breakfast at a shop on the other side of the road after a medical check-up at the private hospital. Aleng’s wife who was accompanying him cried uncontrollably.

His remains were later taken to the Sarawak General Hospital’s morgue for a post mortem. A few fatal accidents have occurred on the road in front of the private hospital. Perhaps an overhead bridge needed to be built at the place for the safety of pedestrians. Police are investigating the fatal accident.
