KUCHING: Sarawak’s revenue growth to RM14.2 billion last year reflected the state government’s effective fiscal and economic management.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak had advanced with a clear direction since Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) took over the administration.

He said that Sarawak’s record RM15.8 billion annual budget this year also demonstrated the State’s strong footing and its ability to finance more development programmes across the State.

“Since 2017, Sarawak has proven its capacity to achieve encouraging development performance.

“The State’s revenue more than doubled from RM6 billion to RM14.2 billion last year, reflecting the effectiveness of our fiscal and economic management.

“At the same time, Sarawak’s annual budget amounting to RM15.8 billion this year is the largest in our history,” he said.

He delivered the remarks in his address during the parade held in conjunction with the 79th official birthday of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at Padang Merdeka here today.

Abang Johari asserted that Sarawak’s standing as a successful economy was further strengthened through international recognition.

He noted that since 2022, the World Bank had recognised Sarawak as a high-income economy.

“In 2024, Sarawak’s Gross National Income (GNI) reached RM73,100, surpassing the threshold value of RM63,800 set by the World Bank,” he said.

As such, he stressed that Sarawak’s growing revenue had been channelled back to the people through the implementation of various initiatives.

Among them, he said, were development projects focused on infrastructure, electricity and clean water supply, as well as talent development.

“Most importantly, we want this prosperity to be felt by all Sarawakians, regardless of background.

“Our principle is clear – Sarawak’s prosperity must be inclusive, leaving no one behind,” he added.
