KUCHING: Sarawak’s rhythmic gymnast, Jenevieve Tan Su Qi, secured a bronze medal in the individual apparatus final – clubs category at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma), held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Monday (Aug 19).

Jenevieve delivered an impressive performance, earning a score of 24.150, which placed her third on the podium.

The gold medal was claimed by Nur Zharifah Wong Rudy Kurniawan from Federal Territories, who dazzled the judges with a score of 27.200.

Meanwhile, Nur Zharifah’s teammate Cassidy Tan Jia Xin took the silver with a score of 26.400.

Speaking to New Sarawak Tribune after the event, Jenevieve, 15, shared her joy in contributing to Sarawak’s medal tally.

“I’m really happy and excited to have won this medal for Sarawak. It’s an honour to represent my state, and this achievement motivates me even more,” she said.

Looking ahead, she revealed her aspirations of joining the national team.

“My next goal is to represent Malaysia in the national team. I’ll be preparing for the national team selection in October, and I hope to make the cut,” she added.

The rhythmic gymnastics competition ended on Monday, marking the end of an exciting series of events.

The Federal Territories dominated the competition, winning seven gold and three silver.

Selangor secured two silver and three bronze, while Negeri Sembilan claimed two silver and two bronze.

Sarawak and Perak each won a bronze.
