KUCHING: A local man died on the spot after his motorcycle skidded and collided head-on with a lorry along Jalan Pending yesterday (May 7).
The fatal accident happened at around 12.35 pm as the victim was riding from Jalan Pelabuhan traffic light to Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim had lost control of his motorcycle, causing him veer into the opposite lane and crash into the oncoming lorry, driven by a man in his 30s.
“The victim, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). His body was taken to the hospital for further action,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving or riding.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the accident to contact traffic investigation officer Insp Mohd Rashdan Rosli at 013-6204758, 082-259900 or the nearest police station.
Alexson advised motorists to drive responsibly and always adhere to road laws to avoid being involved in road accidents.
“They are also reminded not to drive recklessly or dangerously as such behaviour poses serious risks to both themselves and other road users,” he said.
