KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed while seven others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash along Jalan Samarahan Road Bypass, Stutong Baru this morning (Oct 7).
The accident which occurred at around 9.24 am, involved two motorcycles and two vehicles — a Perodua Alza and a Toyota Avanza, travelling from the opposite directions.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Mohd Irfan Waiz, died at the scene from severe injuries. He was riding the motorcycle alone at the time of the accident.
Firefighters from Kota Samarahan station were dispatched to the scene and confirmed that there were eight victims in total, comprising six men and two women.
Seven victims sustained minor injuries, while the deceased motorcyclist was handed over to the police for further action.
Firefighters assisted in rescuing an elderly Avanza driver and provided initial treatment to the others before they were taken to the hospital for further care.
The seven other victims affected by the accident were reported to be two persons on the second motorcycle; an elderly Avanza driver; and four in the Alza vehicle.
Once the situation was deemed safe and debris were cleared off the road, the Bomba ended the operation and departed back to their station.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
