SIBU: A local man died on the spot after he fell from his motorcycle and was run over by an unidentified vehicle along Jalan Sibu–Tanjung Manis on Tuesday.
The accident is believed to have occurred at around 9.30 pm when the 31-year-old victim was riding a Honda motorcycle towards Tanjung Manis from Sibu.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said preliminary findings indicated that the victim lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the middle of the road.
“The victim was subsequently run over by another vehicle, which has yet to be identified.
“Due to the impact, the victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
His remains were later taken to Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem.
Following that, an investigation paper was opened under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Zulkipli urged witnesses or those with information about the accident to report them to authorities.
