SERIAN: Financial assistance totalling RM849,400 was channelled to associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and church committees in the Serian parliamentary constituency to support community development and religious infrastructure.
A total of 26 recipients received Minor Rural Projects (MRP) cheques, while four recipients were awarded grants under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), through applications submitted by the Serian Member of Parliament (MP).
Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem expressed hope that the allocations would benefit residents, particularly those within the Serian parliamentary constituency.
“I also remind all recipients to submit utilisation reports to the Serian Member of Parliament’s Service Centre for record-keeping purposes,” he said after presenting the cheques and UNIFOR grants at a simple ceremony in Bilik Mesyuarat Dewan Leort Cottage Pichin Serian today.
Riot praised the Serian community for its responsible use of previous allocations, noting that the funds had not been misused and had brought tangible benefits to the people.
He added that among the largest recipients was St Peter’s Catholic Church, Kampung Pridan, Serian, which received an allocation of RM250,000 from UNIFOR for the construction of a new church.
“Three other UNIFOR grants were also awarded to St William’s Catholic Church, Kampung Bugu Ngiyang, amounting to RM137,000; the Semukoi Seventh Day Adventist Church, RM120,000; and St Patrick’s Church, Kampung Krangan Trusan, Serian, totalling RM28,900,” said Riot.
